Bioplastics public-private venture

Public-private venture proposed for bioplastic, Science ministry ready to commit B300m by Yuthana Praiwan

The Science and Technology Ministry plans to form a one-billion-baht joint venture with PTT Chemical Plc (PTTCH), Siam Cement Group (SCG) and Mitr Phol Group to build Thailand's first polylactic acid pilot plant to supply materials to make biodegradable plastic.

The ministry will finance 30%, while the three companies would decide whether to invest individually or collectively, according to a source who asked not to be named.

The plant is expected to have annual production of 10,000 tonnes.

The government has been pushing for a biodegradable plastic project since 2008 in order to add value to the country's cassava and sugar industries.

Although future demand is promising, given rising environmental awareness, bioplastics cost five to six times more than petroleum-based plastics.

As a consequence the ministry decided to finance the project and help make it commercially viable.
A feasibility study by the ministry suggested that with 30% public funding, the venture could generate a return on investment of 13%, compared with only 5-6% if no public funding were available.
The source said Thailand could become a regional base for biodegradable plastic because of its abundance of sugar and cassava, and an extensive downstream polymer industry, so full integration requires only the development of a midstream industry.

The ministry will submit its financing proposal for cabinet approval tomorrow, in hopes of getting a plant up and running by 2013. The location would be decided by the business partners.

Veerasak Kositpaisal, president and chief executive officer of PTT Chemical Plc, said the development of bioplastics in Thailand had been delayed because of the high cost of technology, while the quality of finished products still did not meet the needs of plastic users.

He said the bioplastic plant was consistent with the company's plan to expand beyond fossil polymers into biopolymer. This will challenge the company to do more research to develop its own technology

Although bioplastic is expensive now, prices will come down as many polymer producers and raw material suppliers were spending heavily on R&D, he said.

Bioplastics now account for only one percent of total plastic consumption.

Once the cabinet approves the ministry's proposal to commit project finance, PTTCH would study its role in more detail, he added.

CREATIVE ECONOMY: City's fashion industry holds key to success, Innovative sector can attract new investors by Pornnalat Prachyakorn

...Vendors sell inexpensive clothing at Bobae Market. Many of the items to be found are original creations by talented local designers who are a creative resource just waiting to be tapped.

Among the potential industries that could help transform the capital into a creative city is the fashion industry.

Research by Thammasat University's architecture and planning faculty shows Bangkok has more than 20,000 fashion businesses, both retail and wholesale.

...Among Dr Peeradorn's research suggestions is that Bangkok establish fashion districts by promoting the uniqueness of each existing fashion-related business area.

For instance, Siam Square could be promoted as a centre for young local designers, while the Pratunam and Bobae areas can be national wholesale centres.

The Chatuchak weekend market and Siam Square are already fashion areas in their own right, with armies of young designers equipped with their own original designs.

Pratunam also has a great potential to be promoted internationally due to its easy access via the Airport Rail Link and already flourishing retail and wholesale buildings.

The areas in front of the buildings could be used to stage fashion shows, encourage fashion ideas and promote interaction within the industry.

Other areas include Sampheng, Bang Lamphu, the area behind Thai Airways' office on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, Union Mall in Lat Phrao district, Klong San district, the Tawanna clothing weekend market in Bang Kapi district and Soi Lalaisap of Silom Road... 

...Dr Peeradorn cited the 40-year-old Dongdaemun market in Seoul that has become a popular retail and wholesale fashion centre attracting a new generation of designers.

Seoul has used the area to help foster creativity by opening the Dongdaemun Design Plaza & Park, which serves as a fashion learning centre. The project is the fruit of a co-operation between the government and the private sector...

...."We should promote a shared understanding among these entrepreneurs that they are part of the industry regardless of their business size or whether they have a factory or create their own designs," said Dr Peeradorn...

...Thammasat's research also shows the government should establish a permanent design institute and a network of educational institutions for design, both of which would promote brainstorming and the gathering of ideas for development of the industry.

Educational institutions should also initiate fashion-development-related curricula and include knowledge sources such as libraries.

Dr Peeradorn said a good level of co-operation already exists between the government, the private sector and owners inside the city's fashion areas such as for the staging of the Thailand Fashion Expo or Elle Fashion Week...

Christmas in the comics

For the past several weeks, Christmas has been a regular topic in the Bangkok post’s comics section. Here are some amusing examples.

Many families, including my own, send Christmas cards to many different people, wishing them happy holidays and often bringing them up-to-date about what has happened within their families during the past year.

It is a big job and many people mail their cards a bit late, but not Brutus Thornapple (below). He seems quite proud of himself until his wife brings up the subject of stamps. Now you can understand why Brutus is known as the “Born Loser”. He can’t seem to do anything right.

Another tradition in many families is the baking of delicious Christmas cookies. As all the neighbourhood kids know, Blondie is an expert. The only problem is that her husband, Dagwood, is likely to eat every cookie he can get his hands on. How do they solve the problem?

Gift-giving is a common topic in comics around Christmas time. It is very difficult for some people to choose the right gift for people who are important to them. Jon is hopeless when it comes to buying a gift for his girlfriend Liz.

Several days later, Jon still has no idea what to buy.

Charlie Brown has no difficulty in figuring out what to buy for the girl his likes. His problem is that he didn’t have the $25 dollars that it cost to buy the beautiful pair of gloves he knew she would like. He finally decided to sell all the comic books he had every collected and he bought the gloves. Was his gift a success?

For Santa Claus, choosing the right gift is not a problem. He and his elves make all the gifts they deliver. They only deliver to people have been good throughout the year, however, and this is definitely a problem for someone like the King of Id. What does he think he can to do to get presents from Santa? Do you think his plan will work?

When you think about it Santa Claus is an amazing person, delivering presents to children around the world in only 24 hours. That seems completely impossible – something that children can believe in but it not adults.  In the comic strip Monty, the Cyborg living with Monty has just thought about the problem. Does it cause him to believe there is no Santa Claus?

Finally, the Cyborg solves the mystery of Santa Claus – or at least he thinks he has solved it.

Defamation is a Civil matter

In her excellent article, "Thailand's Oceania Moment", Supara Janchitfah highlights the fact that the present Democrat-led government, though they have imposed censorship far beyond anything ever dreamed of by Thaksin, did not invent censorship _ they've simply been perfecting it.

Nor is censorship a weapon used exclusively by the government. The figures cited by Supara show that one third of the cases brought under the Computer Crimes Act were for defamation of a third party.
There is absolutely no reason why damaging someone's reputation should be a criminal act. Defamation is a dispute between private individuals and the state should not be involved. The outcome in such cases, when they have merit, should be the restoration of the injured party's reputation and the payment of compensation, not a prison term.
Furthermore, in countries such as the US, it is not enough simply to show that something said or written about the plaintiff was untrue, it also has to be shown that the defendant knew that it was untrue and acted maliciously to damage the plaintiff's reputation.
The threat of criminal prosecution for libel is one of the chief weapons used by governments to frighten the media into censoring itself, and the Bangkok Post and the rest of the Thai media should be campaigning vigorously to have this unjust law repealed.

PROFIT DICTATES BURMA POLICY

I would like to make a respectful request to the villagers of Phop Phra District (''Disease fears worry villagers'', Dec 24 Bangkok Post): Instead of complaining about the migrants and refugees from Burma who are forced to leave their homeland in hope of finding a measure of safety and security in Thailand, please think about the economic and political policies that compel these people to become migrants and refugees in the first place.
As Nobel laureate Amartya Sen (above) pointed out on his recent visit to Bangkok, Thailand, along with China and India, must take a lot of the blame for propping up the inhumane Burmese military regime by making self-serving business deals with the generals, instead of supporting the pro-democracy forces of the troubled country.
When Thailand starts doing what it can to stop the source of the problem instead of benefitting from the continued suffering of the Burmese people, then Thais will have the moral authority to call for restrictions on migrants and refugees in their own country.

E-POST HAS ITS ADVANTAGES

The letter from ''Disappointed in Din Daeng'' last Sunday lamented the difficulty of finding a printed copy of the Bangkok Post, especially on Sunday. I offer a comment.
The Post is not perfect, but it does offer good services. With a subscription, you can suspend delivery with a call, email or fax, which is perfect for frequent travellers. I have the paid web version now, and while it is not the same as a nice, crisp printed paper, it does have some advantages.
In the first place, it arrives in my inbox early each day. Secondly, if I want to print or forward an article it is a snap. Third, I can grizzle and comment with a few clicks of the keyboard.
Finally, I can pretend to be environmentally conscious by not consuming paper. My maid grumbles under her breath that she does not have paper to wrap things in any more, but I am the boss and I ignore her.

US EDUCATION CHALLENGES

In his letter to PostBag published on Dec 23, Guy Baker gleefully shared an Associated Press report that stated nearly 25% of United States army applicants failed the entrance exam.
He embellished his letter with a tired old joke, probably lifted from a 10-year-old copy of Playboy.
He might have acknowledged that more than 75% of the applicants passed or that the US faces many challenges educating the more than 200,000 immigrants admitted into the country each year and the very large number of children who are born into homes where English is not spoken.
He could have pointed out that the US is well aware of the problem and has many programmes in place, for example No Child Left Behind, to improve the education system.
One can only speculate on Mr Baker's motivations and unwavering animosity toward the US, but I am hopeful that he might yet find a way to focus his enormous energy in a more positive manner.

Far too soft on pirates

Less than six weeks ago, the Royal Thai Navy gave hope that the battle against the pirates in the northern Indian Ocean could be won. Two naval vessels sailed for the Gulf of Aden. Their crew of 351 sailors and 20 special warfare troops had the mission of joining the international effort against the pirates. On Christmas Day, no less, came word that 27 Thai seamen and their 20,377 tonne cargo ship had been successfully hijacked by pirates.

The Christmas hijacking puts a total of four Thai vessels in criminal hands. Last April, the pirates seized three fishing boats, the Pran Talay 11, 12 and 14. The ships and their 77 crew remain in the hands of the hostage-takers. The Thai-flagged Thor Nexus and its 27 Thai crewmen are the latest victims.
According to the European Union Naval Force for Somalia, which coordinates anti-piracy activities, the criminals now hold 25 vessels and 601 people hostage. The Socotra 1, a Yemeni owned ship with six crewmen, was hijacked on Dec 25 last year. During the past year, the Thai navy ships and numerous other warships from many other countries have recovered only a few pirated vessels. The pirates continue to win a lucrative battle in which they have gained millions in ransom while putting world shipping at high risk, and international security efforts to shame.
The pirates are mostly, if not all, from Somalia. The African nation is commonly described as lawless. More correctly, it is a gangster nation, with warlords in charge, and collecting tribute from the likes of the international pirates. The hijackings began against ships passing close to Somalia. Over the past several years, the criminals have ranged hundreds, even thousands, of miles from home. They are sustained by large ''mother ships'' in operations that have defied the governments along the ocean shores, and navies from Europe, the United States and Japan, among others.
The motor vessel Thor Nexus and its Thai crew put out from the United Arab Emirates last week, and was seized some 350 nautical miles off Oman _ well on the way to its next destination, Bangladesh. This shows how far the pirates range from their home country. It also explains why Iran announced recently that it intends to send its navy to fight the pirates in a separate action from the international task force.
Each time a vessel is hijacked, meaning about every two weeks of the past year, there is much hand-wringing and a distinct lack of meaningful action against the pirates. In truth, the criminal gangs are armed and dangerous, but few casualties have been reported, given the amount of crime involved. The pirates' single goal is to collect a ransom for the safe return of the hostages and their vessels. In most cases, this has been achieved. Even Thai fishing vessels have been victims of the racket.
Many believe that the way to stop the piracy is for Somalia to become a workable nation once again. After 19 years of bloody violence and a semi-invasion by the United States, that seems unlikely. The only viable way to stop the piracy is to make the pirates pay a heavy price for their crimes, and prevent more crime by fear of the penalty. The international police action by a coalition of navies including the Thai navy, has failed to achieve this goal. The four seized Thai vessels are a shame to so-called international law enforcement efforts. That the criminals hold 104 Thai citizens without retaliation is scandalous.

Get at the real truth

Your ''On the record'' interview with Truth for Reconciliation Commission chairman Kanit na Nakorn, published on Boxing Day, was informative and perplexing by turns.

Informative because, as a former attorney-general, Mr Kanit is well able to provide sharp insights into the workings of the judicial system.
Perplexing because he says the army has stalled on granting access to its operational plans on key days in April and May.
While repeating that the TRC's mandate does not extend to indicting or even identifying the ''shooters'', Mr Kanit expresses a desire to ''know the truth'' in order to make sense of ''what really happened''.
This is where I'm sure many people get lost. How can you arrive at the truth without establishing a factual chain of events, including who shot whom and on whose orders? How does one reconcile with a person or persons unknown?
Justice, perhaps inevitably, seems to be even lower on the list of priorities.

Morality of learning

Though Chris Boyle's and Peter Dobson's recent letters offer both an interesting insight and chain of thought to the ''need'' for parliamentary candidates to hold a degree, I personally feel they have both missed one crucial point: such degrees can be, and often are, bought.
I know of one ex-member of parliament who, when this relatively recent rule was passed, immediately enrolled both himself and his daughter on a course to attain the required degree _ him for attendance and her to do the work. And, as if that wasn't bad enough, to help with the English section he recruited, and paid, an international expat school teacher to do that section of the course.
So when Peter Dobson talks of morality (in the average member of parliament) one has to beg the question whether an education helps an individual to attain it or, as it would seem reading the almost daily accounts of corruption and graft, rise above the perceived notion of needing it to lead the subservient masses.

Show no sympathy

The editorial in Sunday's edition of the Bangkok Post was, in my opinion, way off the mark in stating that ''Even people who take a very hard line on drugs must have felt pity as they read about the young Thai woman as she was arrested as she went through customs at the Bali airport'' with 1,200 ecstasy pills she was smuggling to deliver to a drug dealer in Bali, and that ''Hopefully the Indonesian courts will show mercy and the woman will be released after a much shorter time'' (than that mandated by the laws of that country).
As a victim (not in Thailand, I hasten to add) of a number of violent muggings and burglaries committed by drug addicts in order to pay for their drugs, I have no sympathy whatsoever with the highly paid employees of drug dealers who, by their greed for easy money, make drug dealing possible. What prevents more people becoming drug smugglers is the knowledge that if caught they will be severely dealt with. Show sympathy and mercy and drug smuggling will surely become more commonplace.
I am, however, in agreement with the part of the editorial which states that the most lasting solution is the rehabilitation of drug addicts, but I suspect that those who take ecstasy as a so-called recreational drug are not what may be categorised as addicts.

Criminal defamation

Regarding the letter ''Defamation is a civil matter'' (Postbag, Dec 26) Dom Dunn justifiably criticises Thailand's criminal defamation laws and says that defamation (min pramart) should be a civil offence only compensatable by monetary damages (although fines can also be used punitively).
Articles 326-333 of the Thai Penal Code provide for various penalties for this crime including of up to two years' imprisonment where the defamation is by means of publication or otherwise in permanent form.
Criminal defamation arguably violates Thai constitution Sections 29 (general restrictions on rights), 37 (''A person shall enjoy the liberty of communication by lawful means. The censorship, detention or disclosure of communication between persons including any other act disclosing a statement in the communication between persons shall not be made except by virtue of the provisions of the law specifically enacted for security of the State or maintaining public order or good morals.'') and 39 (''A person shall enjoy the liberty to express his or her opinion, make speeches, write, print, publicise, and make expression by other means.'') and should be repealed by the government or challenged in the Constitution Court.
However, the US law which Mr Dunn cites requiring both an untrue statement and actual malice is for public figures such as politicians under The New York Times v. Sullivan case.
Also, Mr Dunn ties criminal defamation into the overall issue of censorship and says that the ''Democrat-led government ... have imposed censorship far beyond anything ever dreamed of by Thaksin'' and that the current government has been ''perfecting censorship''.
This sounds like the many pro-Thaksin and red shirt websites criticising the government's censorship record and presenting themselves as better on human rights.
Although I am disappointed that Abhisit Vejjajiva has also filed criminal lawsuits and had hoped that as an Oxford debater and a politician with such a good reputation he would have opposed resorting to this law, Thaksin also filed numerous civil and criminal defamation lawsuits including while in office. Mr Dunn may or not remember the very long list of cases including The Economist, Manager, the airport runway cracks, Shin Corp profits, and more recently the foreign minister.
The group ''Article 19'' has an excellent website showing the different criminal defamation laws around the world. They note that of 28 countries surveyed in Asia only New Zealand (decriminalised 1992) and Sri Lanka (decriminalised 2002) do not have criminal defamation statutes.
They say that the largest number of people imprisoned for defamation is in the Philippines, that China uses more ''direct control'' mechanisms, and that in Malaysia and Singapore civil defamation (with uncapped damages) are used to ''prevent criticism''. In 2007, the Mexican Senate also decriminalised defamation.

A better role model

Despite the ''spin'' that Paul Conley, USA, put on my letter of Dec 23, the shameful state of US education was not ''gleefully shared'', as he put it (''US education challenges'', Dec 26). The ''dumbing down'' of America is a travesty, not a joke, in my mind.
Mr Conley seems impressed by the fact that 75 per cent of applicants pass the US army entrance exams but, as my letter pointed out, the US secretary of education sees it as a threat to national security.
So which is it: Has the education deficit in the US got to the point of being a threat to national security, as the secretary of education has said, or is being ''well aware of the problem'' sufficient?
When it comes to education, the Kingdom of Thailand needs a far better role model than the US and there by the way is the motivation behind my letter, for which Mr. Conley asked.
Any criticism of my choice of jokes, however, is fully justified.

Lee says S.Korea must stay united against N.Korea

SEOUL - South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak called Monday for national unity in the face of North Korean attacks, saying the communist state would exploit divisions to strike again.

South Korean army self-propelled Howitzers fire rounds during military exercises on the Seungjin Fire Training Field, in mountainous Pocheon. Tensions have been high since the South accused the North of torpedoing a warship in March near the disputed Yellow Sea border with the loss of 46 lives.

Lee, in a fortnightly radio address, also told South Koreans not to fear war with what he called the world's "most belligerent regime", even though Seoul's hope is for peace.
The South has staged a series of military exercises, including one with the United States, since the North shelled an island near the disputed Yellow Sea border last month and killed four people, including two civilians.
The North's ruling communist party newspaper branded the exercises a "dangerous collusion" between Seoul and Washington that would lead to "destruction".
"But our patience is limited," said Rodong Sinmun, denouncing Seoul as a "coward" for relying on Washington for military protection. The United States stations some 28,500 troops south of the border.
The North's artillery attack -- the first on a civilian area in the South since their 1950-53 conflict -- sparked fears of war.
But tensions have been high since May, when a South Korean-led multinational investigation concluded that a North Korean torpedo had sunk one of Seoul's warships two months earlier.
The North vehemently denied responsibility for the warship attack, and the investigation's findings were questioned by some in the South.
Lee said those disagreements, due to "ideological lines and political interests", had emboldened the North to stage the island attack.
"Seeing this, the North Koreans must have thought that their attacks could cause divisiveness in the South and that they might be able to get away with another provocation," he said.
"They are focusing on trying to pull us apart... If we show the North Koreans how steadfastly united we are, they will not dare challenge us."
Last month's artillery bombardment sparked widespread public anger. More than 80 percent of South Koreans believe their military should have hit back harder after the bombardment, according to a poll a week after the attack.
Lee cited a change of mood, saying applications to join the marine corps had doubled after the shelling.
The North accuses the South of provoking its November 23 bombardment of Yeonpyeong island by holding a firing drill there.
The South on December 20 staged another drill on Yeonpyeong but the North did not follow through with threats of a new and deadlier attack.
On Thursday last week, in another show of strength, Seoul deployed tanks, artillery and jet fighters in a live-fire exercise on the mainland.
The military said Sunday it would stage more firing drills this week, but not near the disputed sea border, describing them as routine training. A defence ministry spokesman said one of the drills was held Monday.
The North's KCNA news agency said the drills this week would drive the situation "to the brink of a war".
Lee called again for a strong response to any future attacks.
"We have now been awakened to the realisation that war can be prevented and peace assured only when such provocations are met with a strong response," the president said. "Fear of war is never helpful in preventing war."
Analysts along with US and South Korean government officials say the Yeonpyeong attack was likely linked to preparations for a power transfer in the North.
They say the aim is to present Kim Jong-Un, youngest son and heir apparent to Kim Jong-Il, as a tough and resolute leader and to create a warlike atmosphere to inspire unity.
A Seoul-based radio station which broadcasts to the North said Monday a train carrying birthday gifts for Jong-Un derailed this month in a possible act of sabotage.
Open Radio for North Korea said the train derailed upon departing from Sinuiju, on the border with China, on December 11.
It quoted a North Korean military intelligence official as saying sabotage by regime opponents may have caused the crash. The South's National Intelligence Service said it was checking the report.

Baht 'unaffected' by China rate hike

China's interest rate hike would not cause the baht's value to fluctuate further, Bank of Thailand assistant governor Pongpen Ruengvirayudh said on Monday.

"I believe China's interest rate hike will not affect other currencies in Asia since each country already has measures to deal with currency fluctuations," Mrs Pongpen said.

She said the policy interest rate is rising since it was at a negative level in the past.

However,  the difference between interest rates is not the main factor attracting more capital inflow to the country, she said.

Thailand's exports in 2010 hit a record high, surging 26.5 to 28.5 per cent to more than US$190 billion, Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakasai said on Monday.

Mrs Porntiva said the country's export growth caused the gross domestic product to rise 7.9 per cent.

Farmers' earnings had improved as prices of most agricultural products had increased this year.

She also said the Internal Trade Department will sign a memorandum of understanding with palm cooking oil manufacturers to ensure that no domestic shortages occur.

The Energy Ministry has agreed to reduce the fuel tariff adjustment charge, also known as  the Ft, by 5.67 satang per unit, bringing down the cost of electricity nationwide from January to April next year to 3.11 baht a unit.

Energy Minister Wannarat Channukul said on Monday the government's Energy Regulatory Commission had resolved to decrease the Ft from 92.55 satang to 86.58 satang per unit.

Mr Wannarat said the reduction was approved because of a drop in natural gas prices to 230 baht per million BTU, from 234.58 baht per million BTU, and the baht's appreciation from 32 baht to the US dollar to 30.30 baht a dollar.

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand's burden from the Ft subsidy totalled 2.56 billion baht and should be paid off by April, he added.

Key Dems support Anchalee to succeed Korbsak

Anchalee Wanich Theppabutr will definitely be appointed to succeed Korbsak Sabhavasu as PM's secretary-general, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva confirmed on Monday.

He said Mrs Anchalee had worked with Mr Korbsak for a long time, so she would be able to maintain continuity of responsibility.

Asked about a report that some MPs were opposed to Mrs Anchalee's appointment, Mr Abhisit said he would explain all at a party meeting on Tuesday.

The prime minister confirmed that Mr Korbsak would join the Democrat Party's team preparing for a general election and would not return to a political post.

Mr Korbsak, whose resignation is effective on Jan 1, also said Mrs Anchalee is suitable for the post of secretary-general of the prime minister.

The former deputy prime minister said he based his opinion on his experience working with Mrs Anchalee, who has served as PM's deputy secretary-general.
She had a lot of experience and was well suited to be his successor as PM's secretary-general.

On the suggestion that she might not be a good coordinator, Mr Korbsak said this was not necessary. Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban had already been tasked with coordinating with the other parties in the coalition government.

Mr Suthep earlier denied speculation that some MPs in the Democrat Party, including himself, disliked Mrs Anchalee.

He said he had supported Mrs Anchalee for the job even before the prime minister announced her appointment.

The Democrat secretary-general said there was no conflict in the party over Mrs Anchalee's appointment.

Those who spread the rumours of conflict did so with an ill intention to discredit and destroy the image of the Democrat Party, he said.

ประวัติ : สาวน้อยออกลักษณะทอมบอยนิดๆ ในภาคแรก (ลักษณะนี้จะเด่นมาก แต่พอภาค2มาก็จะไม่เท่าเลล่า) เคยแอบชอบพระเอกในเรื่องแต่พระเอกกลับไม่ชอบเธอ (ในตอนแรก) ไม่ใช่เพราะเค้าเป็นเกย์แต่อย่างใด (อรุ๊ย!!) แต่ชอบผู้หญิงอีกคนอยู่ ซึ่งเป็นศัตรูโดยตรงของพวก Winx เธอเป็นเพียงสามัญชนธรรมดาในอาณาจักรของเธอ ซึ่งพ่อแม่เป็นนักดนตรีทำให้มูซ่าชอบดนตรีมาตั้งแต่เด็ก พลังของเธอเกี่ยวข้องกับดนตรีล้วนๆ ส่วนใหญ่พลังแรงจะเป็นพวก Sonic Boom

เทคน่า (Tecna)

ประวัติ : สาวที่ดูเหมือนจะฉลาดที่สุดในกลุ่ม เก่งกาจด้านเทคโนโลยีและตัวเลข การวิเคราะห์ต่างๆ อีกอย่างเวลาแปลงร่างชุดของเธอจะดูมิดชิดกว่าคนอื่นๆ -*- พลังของเทคน่าชื่อก็บอกอยู่แล้วว่าเกี่ยวกับเทคโนโลยี แต่พลังรูปแบบยังไงนี่งงๆนิดหน่อย ส่วนใหญ่จะใช้เป็นยิงเลเซอร์สีเขียว และ กำแพงไฟ (Firewall)

เลล่า (Layla)

ประวัติ : สาวคนสุดท้ายที่เพิ่งโผล่ออกจากในภาคที่2 (ในภาคแรกจะยังไม่เห็นเธอ) ในตอนแรกเธอก็มีปัญหาในการเข้ากับกลุ่มวิ๊งซ์อยู่เหมือนกัน แต่เมื่อเวลาผ่านไป ทำให้เธอเข้าใจว่าเพื่อนๆไม่ได้ทอดทิ้งอะไรเธอเลย แม้แต่น้อย เลล่ามีนิสัยแบบห้าวๆโลดโผน ชอบกีฬาท้าทาย ขี่มอเตอร์ไซด์และเล่นกีฬาเก่งทุกอย่าง เลล่าเป็นเจ้าหญิงแห่งอาณาจักรใต้ทะเล(ชื่ออะไรจำไม่ได้ละ) มีบริวารเป็นทหารเงือก -*- มากมาย ในอาณาเขตของเธอยังเป็นประตูสู่ที่คุมขังนักโทษที่อันตรายที่สุดในอาณาจักรMagix เนื่องจากอาศัยอยู่บริเวณทะเล เลล่าจึงว่ายน้ำเก่งมากและสามารถใช้คาถาหายใจใต้น้ำได้ พลังของเลล่าที่ก็งงๆอยู่เหมือนกัน เค้าเรียกว่าพลังมอฟิกซ์ เป็นก้อนพลังยืดหยุ่นคล้ายหมากฝรั่งกับกาว สามารถสร้างและจัดรูปได้ตามใจนึก และนอกจากนั้นยังสามารถใช้เป็นอาวุธและเกราะที่แข็งแกร่งได้ดีอีกด้วย

ธาตุพลัง : มอฟิกซ์ (Morfix)

จบละ ทั้ง6คนนี้รวมกันตั้งเป็นกลุ่มซึ่งชื่อว่าวิ๊ง (Winx) โดยเหล่านางฟ้าทั้งหลายทุกคนจะเรียนวิชาเวทมนตร์ทั้งหลายอยู่ที่ Alfea โรงเรียนสอนเวทมนตร์เฉพาะนางฟ้า

-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-ต่อมาก็เป็นกลุ่มผู้ชาย (อู๊วววว ชั้นว่าต้องมีพวกตาลุกวาว...) ในเรื่องเรียกกลุ่มนี้ว่าผู้เชี่ยวชาญ (Specialist) เก่งกาจทางด้านการรบและการทหาร โดยใช้อาวุธเวทมนตร์ เช่น ดาบแสงพลังเวทมนตร์ ฯลฯ อะไรพวกนี้ แต่โดยทั่วไปแล้วไม่มีเวทมนตร์อะไรทั้งนั้น จึงถือว่ากระจอกมาก โดยกลุ่มผู้ชายจะศึกษาอยู่ที่ Red Fountain

สกาย (Sky) : แฟนของบลูม เจ้าชายของอาณาจักรอิรากลิออน Eraklyon

แบรนดอน (Brandon) : แฟนของสเตล่า แต่ไม่ได้เป็นเจ้าชายอะไรทั้งนั้น แต่เป็นมหาดเล็กคอยคุ้มครองและเป็นเพื่อนกับ Sky

ทิมมี่ (Timmy) : แฟนของเทคน่า เก่งกาจด้านเทคโนโลยี เครื่องมือ อุปกรณ์ แต่เอ่อๆนิดหน่อย

ริเวน (Riven) : แฟนของมูซ่า ซึ่งตอนแรกก็ไม่ได้ชอบเธอซักเท่าไหร่ เป็นคนอารมณ์ร้อน ชอบใช้กำลัง ตอนแรกพวกวิ๊งซ์ก็ไม่ค่อยชอบหมอนี่เท่าไหร่

เฮเลีย (Helia) : แฟนของฟลอร่า (เพิ่งมาโผล่หัวเอาภาค2) เป็นหนุ่มติ่มๆผมยาว ชอบแต่งกลอน ทำให้ฟลอซ่าหลงเค้าเอามากๆ เพราะเป็นคนโรแมนติก

นาบู (Nabu) : แฟนของเลล่า เจ้าชายของเมืองห่าอะไรไม่รู้ ในเน็ตก็ไม่บอก (เพิ่งโผล่หัวมาเอาภาค3) โดยแอบซุ่มไม่กล้าเจอหน้าเลล่าตรงๆอยู่ตั้งนาน แต่ก็แอบชอบ

ทีนี้มาถึงศัตรูหลักๆพวก Trix ศัตรูมาช้านาน เป็นทายาทจากพวกแม่มด3คนที่ไปทำลายอาณาจักรดอมิโน่ของบลูมจนย่อยยับ เพื่อต้องการพลัง ซึ่งทริกซ์ก็ต้องการสืบต่อโดยการพยายามขโมยพลังของบลูม ซึ่งก็ถูกขัดขวางอยู่เรื่อยไปโดยฝีมือของกลุ่มวิ๊งซ์ พวกทริกซ์เคยเป็นพวกเรียนอันดับ1ของหอเมฆหมอก หรือ Cloud Tower ในกลุ่มประกอบด้วย3แม่มด คือ ไอซ์ซี่ ดาร์ซี่ และสตอร์มมี่(พบได้ตั้งแต่ภาค1ไปเป็นต้นไป)



ไอซ์ซี่ (Icy) (กลาง) : แม่มดผู้มีพลังน้ำแข็งอันร้ายกาจ สามารถแช่แข็งศัตรูรึสร้างเป็นอาวุธก็ได้

ดาร์ซี่ (Darcy) (ขวา) : แม่มดสาวแสนสวยร้อยมารยา ผู้ชายนิติดเป็นว่าเล่น (และคนนี้นี่เองที่ทำให้มูซ่าต้องหึง เพราะไปยั่วชายที่มูซ่าชอบคือริเวน เพื่อใช้เค้าล้วงข้อมูล+จับการเคลื่อนไหวของกลุ่มวิ๊งซ์)ดาร์ซี่มีพลังจิตและพลังความมืดอันทรงพลัง สามารถใช้พลังโทรจิตและสร้างความมืดให้แก่ดวงตาศัตรูเพื่อทำให้ตาบอดได้

สตอร์มมี่ (Stormy) (ซ้าย) : แม่มดสาวผู้บ้าพลัง และคิดว่าตัวเองมีพลังสูงที่สุดในกลุ่ม มีพลังในเรียกฟ้าฝนและพายุ สามารถสร้างสายฟ้าฟาดได้ตามใจนึก

ลอร์ดดาร์คก้า (Lord Darkar) : มีพลังอำนาจมืดที่กล้าแกร่ง มีพลังดูดพลังความแข็งแกร่งของศัตรู พลังของดารคก้าเป็นด้านตรงข้ามของมังกรไฟ(ของบลูม)ทำให้เวลาสู้กับดาร์คก้าพลังของบลูมจะอ่อนแอมาก (พบได้ในภาค2)

บาลทอร์ (Baltor) : เป็นนักโทษตัวเก่งฉกาจผู้พยายามครอบครองอาณาจักรMagixและรวบรวมพลังทั้งหมดของอาณาจักรเวทมนตร์มาอยู่ที่ตัวของเค้าเอง ถึงจะมีพลังสูงแต่ก็ยังไม่เท่าบลูม (พบได้ในภาค3)

ทั้งหมดข้างบนนี่เป็นข้อมูลถึงแค่ภาค3 เท่านั้นนะค่ะ ภาค4 ยังเพิ่งเริ่มดู จึงยังอธิบายอะไรมากไม่ค่อยได้ แต่เห็นว่ามีนางฟ้าเพิ่มขึ้นอีก เห็นว่าชื่อ Roxy อะไรนี่

ภาคที่ 2

เรื่องโดยย่อ : พวกทริกซ์ถูกช่วยออกมาจากคุกโดยลอร์ดดาร์คก้า และลอร์ดดาร์คก้าก็ให้ทริกซ์เป็นเหล่าสมุนและมอบพลัง Gloomix เพื่อใช้เพิ่มพลังเพื่อต่อสู้กับกลุ่มวิ๊งซ์ ..ต่อมาเมื่อพลังของพวกทริกซ์มีอำนาจมากเกิน กลุ่มวิ๊งซ์จึงเสาะหาทางแก้ไขจนได้พลังใหม่ที่ชื่อ Charmix เป็นเข็มกลัดพร้อมอาวุธเพื่อให้ต่อสู้กับกลุ่มทริกซ์ สุดท้ายพวกทริกซ์ก็ถูกจองจำอีกที แต่ในคุกต่างมิติที่หาทางออกแทบไม่ได้หากไม่มีคนช่วยดูได้จาก (ตอนที่เหลือไล่ๆดูเอานะค่ะ ลงทั้งหมดไม่ไหว)

ภาคที่ 3

เรื่องโดยย่อ : พวกทริกซ์ไปเจอบาลทอร์โดยบังเอิญและปลดปล่อยเค้าออกมาเพื่อช่วยให้ตนเองได้เป็นอิสระ พอบาลทอร์ออกมาได้ ก็เริ่มสร้างความโกลาหลอีกครั้งให้กับMagix จนพวกวิ๊งซ์ต้องเดือดร้อน ในที่สุดพวงวิ๊งซ์ก็ได้ค้นพบพลังใหม่เพื่อไว้ใช้ต่อสู้กับบาลทอร์พลังนี้คือการแปลงร่างอีกระดับหนึ่งคือ การเปลี่ยนแปลงระบบ พิสุทย์ อะไรซะอย่าง หรือ ชื่อหรูๆ คือ Enchantix
